CNETS Canada will fund its first Carcinoid Neuroendocrine Research project with the help of the Cancer Research Society. The Cancer Research Society is a Canadian organization that has supported fundamental research projects dealing with all types of cancers at various Canadian Institutions since 1945.
The CRS website says the following:
“Founded in 1945, The Cancer Research Society is a national not-for-profit organization whose mission is to fund cancer research exclusively and to offer seed money for original ideas. The Cancer Research Society is working towards improving the health of the population by helping Canadians to better comprehend the causes and challenges related to cancer.”
Through collaboration with the Cancer Research Society, the Carcinoid Neuroendocrine Tumour Society Canada intends to put your donation towards financing the best scientific research projects. After thirty years of no significant change in longevity, this important partnership holds promise to change outcomes for those with these underreported cancers. Specifically, this initiative will help increase understanding of the events leading to the initiation and metastatic progression of Carcinoid Neuroendocrine malignancies. And, equally important, it will also bring us to much needed answers in regard to diagnosis and treatment of this terrible cancer.
The Cancer Research Society awards each year about 60 cancer-research related grants, each worth about $60,000 per year for a period of two years, through a peer-reviewed national competition. CNETS Canada will receive an additional benefit of dollar-matching by the Cancer Research Society towards supporting the CNETS-sponsored research projects.
Important facts to remember:
CNETS Canada has set a goal of collecting a minimum of $60,000 so that with the doubling of funds by CRS, we will be able to award the very first 120,000$ 2-year CNETS/CRS grant directed solely for supporting NETS research in Canada in the year 2010. CRS has an open and transparent (peer-reviewed) mechanism of selection of best cancer research projects. With our funds, CRS-CNETS Canada will reach all across Canada to invite the researchers and clinicians to submit their best fundamental research proposals related to NET by 15th February 2010. A CRS-panel of national and international cancer experts (clinicians and researchers) will evaluate these projects by June/July 2010 and select the best NET project to be supported for two years for a maximum amount of 60,000$ per year starting from September 2010. This mechanism ensures that we fund only carcinoid/NET research projects which provide the best chance at obtaining the knowledge about the cause and treatment of the NETS.
Please consider making a donation towards Carcinoid Neuroendocrine research through the Carcinoid Neuroendocrine Tumour Society Canada, (CNETS Canada.) Your donation will create significant hope for our patient community through important research designed to unlock mysteries, and point to answers.
CNETS Canada as a Canadian Charity will send you a Canada Revenue Agency Tax Receipt. We accept donations by cheque, payable to CNETS Canada, 4103-3219 Yonge St, Toronto, M4N 3S1. We also welcome online donations via our website. For further information please contact Maureen Coleman, President, CNETS Canada at maureenc@sympatico.ca.
